How to Get a PS4 Controller to Work on Your PC
Sometimes you just need a PS4 controller to really kick butt in a PC game. The question is: how do you get a PS4 controller to work on your PC? It really is not that hard, and adding that DualShock to any gameplay on your PC is epic, let me tell you. Here is all you need to do to set up your PS4 controller on your PC.
The Easy Way: Steam
Install Steam. It has support for PS4 Controllers out of the box.
If you have Steam installed and for some reason, the PS4 Controller does not work try this:
Open Big Picture Mode.
At the top click on Settings, it’s the gear icon.
Under Controller, section go to Controller Settings.
Click PS4 Configuration Support.
Once that is set you can configure the PS4 controller like you would a Steam Controller and get it set up however you want it to work.
Little Harder Way: DS4Windows
You’ll need to install DS4Windows which is a program that will help you tell your PC that the PS4 controller is actually an Xbox 360 controller. Why an Xbox 360 controller? Because Xbox is a Microsoft approved item, so it needs to think your controller is a friend. You can find the program on DS4Windows here. Once you have it downloaded, unzip the file and extract all to a folder of your choosing or the folder that it came in. When the files are extracted, open the folder and run DS4Windows.exe. The other file will help you if you have any problems on down the road.
Launching DS4Windows for the first time will give you a popup that will ask where you want files to be saved. We recommend just using the default one that pops up. Then a window will open asking you to install the DS4 driver. If you have Windows 8 or higher, then you’re good to go with this step. If you have Windows 7 or older, then you need to install the 360 drivers too for things to work properly.
Connect Your PS4 Controller
Connect the controller with a USB or through Bluetooth. To connect through a USB, all you need to do it plug it in and wait for Windows to detect it. You can then use it to play games!
If you want to connect through Bluetooth, hold the central PS button and the Share button until the lightbar on the top of the controller starts to flash. Open up your Bluetooth settings on your PC (if you haven’t already) and search for devices. You should easily find your PS4 controller. If you are asked for a pairing code, just type in 0000.
Once all of those steps are finished, you are ready to play any of your PC games with your PS4 controller.
