Top 10 New and Upcoming RPG Games on PC in 2017

2017 is shaping up to be one of the best years for new RPG games when it comes to breaking the mold and creating original content. Some of the new games that have released and will be released are like nothing we’ve seen yet – meaning you aren’t rolling your eyes at the same old orcs and elves. Ready to learn about the top 10 new RPG games for PC in 2017? Here we go:

1. Destiny 2

Some of us are firmly addicted to Destiny as it stands, but Destiny 2 promises to be a whole new level of craziness. People that have played the beta when it released a week ago found just an amazing array of weapons, mobs, storylines and so much more that just makes us drool even more for the whole game to release in September. You’ll still have the three classes: Titan, Warlock and Hunter and the overall gameplay is still the same, just beyond what you would have expected. Be prepared to be blown away by this RPG.

2. South Park: The Fractured But Whole

Oh, some of us have waited too long for this title and we’re just hoping beyond hope that it actually releases this time. Fractured but Whole is a sequel to The Stick of Truth, except they are adding in the superheroes that the kids of South Park have come up with. If you’ve ever wanted to go through South Park with your favorite characters, love the crass humor and jokes and enjoy RPGs, then this game is for you. It is set to release on October 17, 2017, and you can still preorder the game.

3. Mass Effect: Andromeda

This installment of Mass Effect released in March of 2017 but it is shaping up to be one of the best ones yet. Mass Effect series has always been great at pulling gamers into the story line and this one has got to have some of the most skin crawling areas possible. The fact that the story line is pretty large helps to make up for the inconsistencies in the game. I’d highly recommend this one if you already love the series or if you just want something new to check out.

4. Vampyr

Love dark, edgy games that can really cause you to think about your actions? Vampyr will be one of those games that you’ll become addicted to quickly. As a doctor who has vampirism, you’ll make some crazy decisions about who to kill and who to help. You can actually feed on any NPC in the game, even important ones, and others will miss them if you do. So, you’ll have to be extremely careful who you decide to chomp. I’ll be checking this one out as soon as it releases.

5. Divinity: Original Sin 2

For those that love RPG games that have no type of predictable play, here you go. Original Sin 2 releases in September 2017 and the early access has given gamers something to talk about already. There are a hefty battle and armor systems and a crazy curse and bless status that can just screw up your whole attack. For example, you can light a pool of oil on fire and burn your enemies to death – but if they bless the oil, then you’ve just given them a pool of healing abilities. It is definitely a game to watch and play when it releases.

6. Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord

If you’re a fan of the military strategy SIM games, the Mount & Blade is one game that you cannot miss out on. Mix in a sandbox type game play as well as a great crafting system, then throw in the crazy customizations for characters that can look like Arnold Schwarzenegger all the way to Vladimir Putin and you’ve got a game that will please anyone. Of course, it’s all set in medieval times, making it even better.

7. Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Keeping with the medieval themed RPG games, let’s look at Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Set to release sometime in 2017, this super realistic RPG is trying to break the mold of only being fantasy or fake-cartoony places due to the realism that is in the game. It is also an open world adventure where you can spend hundreds of hours playing without coming upon an ogre or dragon, which might turn off some gamers who love the medieval myths. However, Warhorse Studios is banking on the realism of the game to draw in more players that normally wouldn’t take on this type of game.

8. Torment: Tides of Numenera

Released in February of 2017, inXile’s CRPG takes Monte Cook’s Numenera to a whole new level. The CRPG is set a billion years in the future on Earth where you can’t tell magic from science. Your character is a body that was thrown away by an immortal entity, the Changing God, and you now have to figure out what life is, what you’re doing, and so on. It’s gotten some reviews saying that the start was a bit slow, but it is well worth it after you get going. I loved every bit of it.

9. Dauntless

No, this isn’t one of the movie game spin offs. Dauntless is from Phoenix Labs who decided they needed to bring a good action-packed monster hunter game to life. Set in a western theme, you’ll be hunting down massive monsters, called Behemoths, across this epic fantasy world in a 4-player co-op setting. The graphics are awesome, with crazy flying zeppelin type things, wicked scars down the sides of some character faces, massive battle axes and hammers and so much more. It’s World of Warcraft meets cartoony coolness thrown into all group/dungeon battles all the time. I cannot wait for this one to release.

10. Heart Forth, Alicia

For those that want a softer, more pixelated RPG to sink their teeth into, Heart Forth, Alicia will be releasing someone in early fall of 2017. The pixel graphics are gorgeously bright, but the action adds in elements of puzzles, 2D battles on stages and of course, knocking the poo out of some mobs while little cute numbers fly away as they die. What could be more fun? It looks to me like Terraria on some good acid.
