User Score: 8.8

Critics Score: 81

Ratings: 76

Play the Disgaea 5 Complete in bars, at the bus stop, at work, at home, in the bath and anywhere else you can afford to. This game is mighty addictive and is one of those rare gems that work perfectly on a handheld device as well as on the console. In fact, the game is now more popular than ever simply because it can be played on a handheld device that puts mobile gaming to shame. You’d never want to play another game on your smartphone again. As for the story, there isn’t much to it other than some beautiful chicks in lingerie fighting some badass evils but there’s plenty of humor and fun to keep you hooked. The game will last you for a long time and has proven to be one of the best games you could play on the Switch. The only problem with the game is the character load – 50 characters all of whom want your attention and need activities performed. However, if you don’t have a problem with the complexities of characters, then you can easily overlook the flaws.

3. Puyo Puyo Tetris

Genre: Puzzle, Stacking

User Score: 7.9

Critics Score: 81

Ratings: 100

As if Tetris by itself was not enough, Nintendo decided to mash it up with another Sega giant, the Puyo Puyo. And although mashups of games don’t always work well, this one is an exception. The Puyo Puyo Tetris combines the gameplay modes of both to give players a, ‘frantic four-player puzzle mashup,’ with plenty of game modes, challenges, and content to keep you busy. The best thing about this mashup is that none of the game had to deviate away from its original concept and still managed to blend together well. With a 100-stage adventure mode and five arcade modes, good luck keeping your hands off this one.

4. Wonder Boy The Dragon Trap

Genre: Action, General

User Score: 8.1

Critics Score: 79

Ratings: 80

This game is nostalgia at it best. There are the wistful retro charm, the painstaking hand-drawn graphics and the sound effects that transport you back to your childhood. It’s just a beautiful piece of 2D artwork turned game that would enthrall you as you play. The protagonist is afflicted with a curse that turns him into a lizard man and now he has to go across the world fighting ghosts, crabs, snakes, monsters and defeat powerful dragons to be able to return to human form. Over the course of the game, you get new abilities and powers to face challenges and defeat monsters. The gameplay is smooth except rare odd hitboxes and frustrating patterns that don’t make part of modern gaming mechanics. Nevertheless, if you want to relive your childhood once again this is worth a try.

Genre: 3D combat

Critics Score: 77

Ratings: 298

Developed exclusively for Nintendo Switch, ARMS is a refreshing combat game. Characters are cute, environment is colorful and the overall experience is pure fun. This is a game you would want to play with your friends over the weekend because it’s a four player game and has some pretty good fighting modes to do justice. Punch opponents or kick em, unleash your inner fighter and turn your weekend into a virtual adventure with the heroes of ARMS.

6. Minecraft: Switch Version

Genre: Action Adventure

User Score: 6.9

Critics Score: 86

Ratings: 94

You no longer need a great smartphone to play your favorite game. Nintendo has released the official Switch version of Minecraft and with its freeform gameplay structure, you won’t be disappointed. We love that the Switch version has handheld features that make gameplay a smooth experience, one that fell short on mobiles. If you’ve never played Minecraft before then you could probably start with the console mode first and progress to the handheld. For Minecraft newbies, the handheld version may be more difficult to control and execute. Once you get the hang of the game from the console version, you’ll be enjoying the game more.

7. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Genre: Action Adventure, Open-world

User Score: 6.5

Critic Score: 76

Ratings: 76

A cult classic, the Legend of Zelda is a game you cannot miss. It’s the kind of game that you need to experience on a console, on a handheld, on a smartphone, on a TV unit or even on a computer. You just need to find the right platform to sync with your gaming needs. Some love it on a handheld, while some prefer it on a desktop. We personally feel that the Switch version of the game could have been much better with a more elaborate storyline, and a hard-mode that isn’t so hard! So once more, like Minecraft, you should start playing this game on a console unit before opting for the handheld. It’s a little complex for people who’ve never played it before and you wouldn’t want to have a bad experience with a great game.

8. Tumbleseed

Genre: Action, General

User Score: 7.3

Critics Score: 79

Ratings: 36

You are a seed, a fast-rolling one at that and you need to beat procedurally generated obstacles to reach the top of the mountain. Simple story, cool actions, plenty of powers and abilities to make this game a must-have on your Nintendo Switch. You’ll be frantically twisting and turning your console to get the seed to roll past obstacles as quickly and as smoothly as you can. But remember, don’t get frustrated with the game because the moment you get frustrated, you’ll literally break the device! It’s a game of concentration, focus and of course patience. Play it when you have a cool head.

9. Cave Story+

Genre: Action, Platformer

User Score: 7.5

Critics Score: 87

An amnesiac protagonist and a psychotic doctor who wants to conquer the world. This was enough to get our attention. A unique story line, a thrilling atmosphere and an army of robot soldiers to defeat are what makes this an appealing game. You don’t even have to be an experienced gamer to enjoy this one even though it is a classic game. Add this to your library and play it on lazy days at home.
