The Top 5 Arma 3 Mods
Arma 3 tends to be one of those games that you can’t talk about with mentioning its vast number of mods and how good they are, well some of them. The tools the developers allow the public to play with is so impressive that given this creative freedom some truly amazing mods have been created.
Arma 3 has a whole range of mods from simple weapon modifications, to full blow game conversions, adding zombies, Star Wars characters and mods that have even spawned new games entirely.
Beneath its core gameplay of shooting and running, fans of the series have managed to uncover new systems altogether. Their dedication and passion have turned Arma 3 into something of a cult classic and it still has a large player base today.
We’ve picked out some of our favourite mods that we urge you to try if you haven’t already. We may have missed out your favourite Arma 3 mod so get in touch and let us know yours.
You might be wondering why I’ve included an Arma 3 mod that is a retelling of a game that already exists. There are a couple of answers to that question, which I am happy to elaborate on.
The first is that I am indeed a huge fan of the Metal Gear Solid series. So why not just play the actual Metal Gear Solid game? This leads me on nicely to my next point.
This mod is indeed a retelling of the game, complete with the codec and boss battles, but more than anything it’s so impressive just how accurate this mod is. It’s not quite the same as the original Metal Gear Solid, as Arma isn’t really built for stealth like MGS is, but with audio ripped straight from the game and levels lovingly re created, it’s certainly worth a look for fans of the series.
Dynamic Universal War System
favorite has to be one of the most ambitious mods out there for Arma 3. The Dynamic Universal War System mod throws you in at the deep end from the moment you start.
This mod creates a procedural war for players and sets you on your way. Players are given a base and then pointed towards objectives like capturing a base. How you do that is up to you. Players can earn command points by capturing objective and increasing their territory. Those points can then be spent on things like troops, vehicles and other upgrades.
There’s a large amount of choice in this mod and it’s commendable. The objectives are clear, but how you achieve them is completely up to you.
Wasteland is a multiplayer only sandbox mission mod with the sole purpose of trying to survive. Players are dropped in game and asked to pick a side; BLUFOR, OPPFOR, or Independent. From there on out, it’s down to you to survive the harsh landscape.
Scavenge for food, water and money by searching the settlements and then spend that hard earned loot on something to protect yourself with. Once you’ve done that, the cycle starts again.
The game will also throw in a few AI enemies from time to time and spawn certain missions that upon completing pay out some pretty hefty rewards. These are always worth doing if you have the resources to do so, as successfully completing just one of these missions can really set you on your way.
If you’re a fan of Fallout or DayZ, then you’ll be sure to enjoy this mod. It’s survival of the fittest and it’s a great time when playing with friends.
PLAYERUNKNOWN’s Battle Royale
PLAYERUNKNOWN’s Battle Royale is an action packed free for all with only one winner. It’s faced paced and totally unforgiving at times. The idea is simple and the rules even simpler. All but one must die.
Inspired by the novel and the movie Battle Royale, this mod provides and a unique and intense game that is never the same twice. Select a server and test your skill against other players. PLAYERUNKNOWN’s Battle Royale is a bloodbath at times and only the best or the luckiest can come out on top.
Players customize their load out and then build their rank by competing in matches. You can also track your progress and see exactly where you rank on the leaderboard, but this wasn’t pretty reading for me.
PLAYERUNKNOWN’s Battle Royale is not the type of game you want to play for a peaceful evening, so if you’re ready for some serious tests, then you’re in for a treat.
Baphomet is probably the most unique and terrifying mission mod that Arma 3 has to offer. This mod is so different to any other on our list that I had to include it.
A portal to hell has opened up and demons and zombies are pouring out covering the world in darkness. The only people who can stop the ungodly things are the Knight Templar – this is where you come in.
You and up to four friends are the Knights Templar, fighting your way through hordes of zombies and demons. Your task is to close the Hell Portal, which I would recommend attempting with friends and this mod is unforgiving, to say the least.
Baphomet has main objective and side objectives, which all in all took friends and me around 3-4 hours to complete. Grab as many friends as you can and take on this dark and sinister world if you dare.
