A sense of adventure hides within all of us. This is especially true for gamers who constantly crave new worlds to explore. Each unique world has its own story, lore, and background to indulge in. This is especially true for games that fall under the adventure genre. These games fully immerse you in their worlds giving you a sense of wonder at everything around you. The games on this list all have very interesting world development within them as well as a lot of different areas for you to explore.

Fallout 4

Fallout 4 is a post-apocalyptic universe where a nuclear war has drastically changed the landscape around you. This game takes place in Boston where most of the once proud city has been over run by Super Mutants and Feral Ghouls. These mutated monsters are out for blood and will make surviving in the wasteland as difficult as they can for you. That means that you’re going to have to put together a literal arsenal to survive out there, oh and make a few friends as well. The world is yours to explore just be sure to keep a lot of ammo in your inventory.

Fallout is a very action oriented game that will have you in the middle of fights regularly. While there is a lot of places to explore in the game, you will have to build yourself up in order to get there. Some areas have far more danger than other and you will need to increase your skills to easily get through them. Other places will offer quests for you to take part in, in order to learn what exactly an area is being used for. The great thing about the Fallout universe is that everything is interconnected in some way or another breathing a sort of believable life in the world.


Skyrim is basically Fallout’s high fantasy cousin. The world of Elder Scrolls is lush with lore and rich settings for you to explore. The land of Skyrim is one country on a huge world map that this game takes place in. That being said of course there’s a lot that bleeds over from the neighboring countries into Skyrim like the multiple races included in the franchise. There is also a lot of inter county tension between two warring factions that both have their own ideas for Skyrim’s way of life.

The gameplay is action RPG oriented, with you being able to choose from a wide range of classes to play with. You can use several medieval type weapons as well as the arcane arts to conquer foes in various battles. There are several different factions in the game you can join up with to experience darker storylines such as the Thieves Guild. There are plenty of different towns to visit that all have interactive characters. The characters all have daily routines they go through and can give you quests to learn more about them or the area itself. This creates a very interesting dynamic as things tie together throughout the game.

Witcher 3

Witcher 3 is probably one of the most intense and well put together worlds out there. The game is simply massive in both size and the time it would take to fully complete it. The story itself is acclaimed of being what all western RPGs should aspire to be. This combined with the popular cast of characters make a recipe for a wonderful adventure for you to enjoy. The best part about this is you can hop right into Witcher universe by just reading the books or with a little bit of research on the other two parts. CD Projekt Red did a great job at making this entry as welcoming to new players of the series as well the veterans.

The story itself revolves around Geralt of Rivia who is on the search to find his lost girlfriend Yennefer. In the process, he finds out his long lost daughter has returned to his realm. This, in turn, causes a 40-50 hour hunt to find Ciri. The game has a very intricate potion making system which is crucial to easily take down the many monsters you will find scattered across the land. WItcher is also a much darker series than other games on this list and has extremely dark scenes and ideas held within it. In some ways, it is even maturer in content than Grand Theft Auto which is notorious for its M rating.

Resident Evil 7

This next game doesn’t have a huge open world or lots of characters to learn about. It does however have an amazing adventure to go on. Jump into the terrifying world of Resident Evil 7 as you try to save your own life by escaping the crazy Baker family. The game doesn’t give you a lot to work with in order to survive making it the perfect VR ready horror game.

This game features the classic Resident Evil gameplay we all know and love. The great thing about this game is it’s made for speed running. That means that you can test yourself against your own completion time once you finish the story. Without giving too much away this game deals less with zombies and more with supernatural organisms.

Far Cry Primal

Far Cry Primal is another open world game on our list, but this time there is a paleolithic element.

In this game, you can befriend animals to help you defeat enemies or make paleolithic era tools to wage war with. You will find that other tribes in the region aren’t welcoming to yours, making part of the game about taking them down. This can be done using a variety of methods and gives the player control over all the chaos that goes on within it.

The one thing you need to remember when starting this game is that you are alone. You will be hunted as prey by pretty much everything in the game causing you to think fast on your feet. Be sure to give yourself good bases before venturing out too far to prevent useless game overs. One of the best ways to do this is to slowly explore the land around you taking attention to what you may have to face in the future in order to progress.
