Top Games from This Year’s E3 Convention
After three full days of gaming insanity, LA is finally back to normal… um, sort of. The Los Angeles Convention Center held this year’s E3 convention, where gaming companies from all over the world tried to impress everyone with their new games, expansions and more. While some are saying that this year’s convention didn’t quite live up to last year’s, it still pulled out some crazy new games that are about to be shoved in your face everywhere you look. So, I thought I’d get the ball rolling and show you the top games showcased at this year’s E3 convention:
More Middle Earth? Yes Please
The next journey to Middle Earth comes on October 10, 2017. ‘Middle-earth: Shadow of War’ will release for several platforms: Xbox One, PS4, and PC. No matter what platform you prefer, you’ll be able to check out this gorgeous new game. It will take the open world of ‘Shadow of Mordor’ and make it even bigger, meaning you can easily play this title for hours on end. The developers promise massive fortress battles, bigger loot systems, crazy combat upgrades, massive new Nemesis system and so much more. If you’re a fan of LoTR or any of the Middle Earth sagas, then this will be a game you won’t want to miss.
‘Super Mario Odyssey’ will release on 10/27/17 and looks to be one of the hottest games of the Fall. Since it’s been like 15 years since ‘Super Mario Sunshine’ came out, fans of the game are full tilt for this new title. The demo at E3 was insane and had gamers going nuts for their chance to play it. One of the coolest things from the demo: Mario’s hat is finally a tool for him to use! He can use it as a weapon and even use it to possess enemies. It releases at the end of October and promises to be one of the holiday’s hottest games.
Here Wolfie, Wolfie…
Also releasing on 10/27/17 is ‘Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus’. It will release for PS4, PC, and Xbox One, meaning that you can get back into some crazy Wolfenstein action. For us older gamers, we love that they are pulling more Wolfenstein back into the mix. Gamers that loved the 2014 ‘Wolfenstein: The New Order’ will also be thrilled that this new installment continues the story of BJ Blazkowicz. You’ll try to survive under ruthless dictators and come up against massive mobs of SS soldiers while you’re in a wheelchair. Yep, wheelchair. The demos at E3 never lie… right?
Now to a Galaxy Far, Far Away…
Ok, a show of hands, who played ‘Star Wars: Battlefront’ way too long? *raises hand* Well, if you did, you’re going to be in big trouble again. ‘Star Wars: Battlefront II” will release on 11/17/17 and will release for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The developers have *hopefully* fixed the story mode in Battlefront II, which was one of the largest complaints about the first game. They’ve also boosted the multiplayer side of things with more customizable classes, more weapons, and more environments. There are also heroes from every Star Wars era, so if you’ve wanted to see how Luke Skywalker would do against Darth Maul, here’s your chance.
Ubisoft Bringing Back a Favorite
Ubisoft is bringing back it’s ‘Far Cry’ franchise with ‘Far Cry 5’, set to release 2/27/18 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. This will be the first game set here in the US and puts up both political undertones and crazy controversy. How? Well, it puts a small-town Montana Sherriff deputy against an insane militia-type cult that too closely resembles some real world US extremist groups. To make it all better, you get a pet dog to run around this huge open world game. Don’t forget however, this is ‘Far Cry’, so there is no telling what you’re going to come up against.
More Games in The Wings
There were more games announced and shown at E3, but I’ve learned that getting too excited over a potential game from E3 can break your heart. While I didn’t go through them in detail here, there are several other games coming out in the next couple of years that look to be just epic. They include: ‘Anthem’ from Bioware, ‘Sea of Thieves’ from Microsoft, ‘Spider-Man’ from Insomniac and ‘Beyond Good and Evil 2’ from Ubisoft – where developer Michel Ancel shocked the crowd by tearing up during the announcement.
I’d keep up with these other games that are in development as they look amazing. I’m just hoping that they don’t turn out to be those awesome games that get stuck on the shelf.
