4 Free Games you can Play Right now

We could all do with a freebie from time to time, and who doesn’t like the thought of getting something for nothing? The good news is that there are generous people all over the Internet. So generous in fact, that they’re will to give you whole games for nothing but an email address and a password.

I recently wrote an article about the cost of VR and it had me thinking about the enormous expense video gaming has become. Games are often released with the promise of DLC, which you pay for. Some are filled with micro transaction, whilst others have you pay over the odds for a title lacking content.

With that in mind, I’ve been searching the Internet for some of the best games you can play for absolutely nothing. Most of us are short of a buck or two these days but fear not, I have you covered. Here are 5 free games you can play right now:

EVE online

EVE Online is an MMO set in space where players take control of their very own spaceship. EVE online calls itself a game where its players write the history. Pilot a ship and embark on your own personal story exploring the galaxy.

EVE Online has been around since 2003 and used to have a pay to play model. An ever dwindling player base and the lack of people willing to pay a monthly subscription meant the developers decided to make this a freemium game. This means you can play the full game for nothing, but paying for extras is available, but not necessary.

For a game released over 10 years ago, EVE Online still holds up graphically. The galaxy is depicted in that beautiful, surreal way that comes with the emptiness of space. As you explore the gorgeous open world you decide on your career path. Become a pirate or a law-abiding citizen. Upgrade your ships and engage in combat or escort a cargo safely.  This living space age world is your chance to live amongst the stars with no limit.

Crossout is a post apocalyptic action MMO available on Steam as a free open beta. Players craft their own unique killing machines in the form of things like Monster trucks with chainsaws sticking out everywhere. Once you’ve created the perfect death dealer, it’s time to engage in some explosive PvP action.

One of Crossout’s greatest strength is it customisable options that allow players to create some pretty crazy and nightmarish machines. There is a huge arsenal of weapons to choose from, including power drills, rocket launchers, and machine guns.

The game also has a sort of market where you can buy and sell the loot you’ve earned from matches. This is where the workshop comes into action as it allows you to upgrade or interchange different parts on your machine.

Above all else, Crossout is a really fun time. It’s often hectic at times and when playing with friends can offer some serious laugh out loud moments. Try the beta today and see if you have what it takes to survive.

Infestation: The New Z

Infestation: The New Z is a new reworking of the game Infestation: Survivor Stories. It’s a massive open world shooter where players search for loot and fight to survive. Not only do you have to be mindful of the many zombies lurking around corners.

Infestation: The New Z actually offers more than just a copy of the ever-popular PlayerUnknowns BattleGrounds, but with zombies. Yes, there is a battle royale mode, but there are also modes, which offer smaller scale maps for a closer PvP experience. The game also has a global inventory so players can save their favorite gear for when things get a little hairy.

This game feels a bit like a phoenix, rising from the ashes. As a person who played the Survivor Stories game, I feel the small team who stayed on from that project have done a far better job this time round. The market for games similar to this is getting a little crowded as of late, but if this is your first entry into the genre, it’s a good start. Infestation: The New Z is free to download and play on Steam today.

The Elder Scrolls: Legends

The Elder Scrolls: Legends is quite simply a card game based in the Elder Scrolls universe. It’s a deep strategy card games that require patience and understanding to master and for a game that will cost you nothing, it will give you many hours of fun.

If you’re going into this game expecting Skyrim, then you’re looking the wrong places. You might find some familiar names from Skyrim here, and while there are some RPG elements this is still a card game. Think of it like only playing Gwent in The Witcher 3: Wild hunt.

The good thing about The Elder Scrolls: Legends is that you can play this game on your own without feeling penalized. The game features a full story mode, which is not the best, but hey, the game’s free.

Deep strategy and hours of replayability will keep you coming back if only to improve your deck just that little bit more. If you’re having some Skyrim blues, this could be just the fix for you. The Elder Scrolls: Legends is free to download on Steam today.
