Forza Horizon 3 Developer Reportedly Working on a New Fable Game
Fable once was one of Microsoft’s heavy hitters, an RPG that was cherished and loved by many RPG fans. The first two games, and especially the special edition of the first game that came out for the PC, were terrific experiences, but the series started degrading with Fable 3, only to sink entirely with Fable Legends. The result was the closing of Lionhead Games and Microsoft’s decision to put Fable on ice. It seems the ice is melting since reports suggest that Playground Games, developers behind the phenomenal Forza Horizon 3, are working on a new title that will take gamers to the magical world of Albion.
Eurogamer reports that, according to unnamed sources, Microsoft decided to handle the work on the new Fable game to Playground Games. The studio already revealed they are preparing to start working on an open-world non-racing game, so the news does seem viable.
Unlike the failed Fable Legends, the upcoming title won’t focus on multiplayer. Instead, the game will focus on a single-player story set in Albion. And unlike previous titles, the upcoming Fable title should offer a proper open-world experience.
When asked about his thoughts on the new title, Fable co-creator Dene Carter stated that he has “slightly mixed feelings.”
He continued explaining that “On the one hand it’s great for the UK games industry, and very pleasing that Fable isn’t dead; indeed, it will be lovely to play one as a punter, without coming out in hives.
“On the other hand it is a little curious to get rid of the team that is uniquely expert in making Fable, and then try and make Fable. Fable is a weird game, and a tough one to deconstruct for a new team. That said, the team in question is very talented, and I’m sure they’ll do a fantastic job.”
Of course, the development process is still in its early stages, so we shouldn’t expect the next Fable title for some time. The game should be available both for PC and Xbox One since Microsoft decided to offer all their first-party exclusives for Windows 10 PCs.
